Meet Dr. Lovees Ahfembombi, Gender Based Violence Activist, Consultant, and Expert

Mr. Lovees is a Gender expert trained at the University of Buea where he obtained his first degree in 2013. The same year his spirit of activism against Gender-Based Violence was born as well.  In 2017, he obtained a Master's degree from the University of Bamenda. One year later in 2018, he got a Diploma from the Wult Institute of Business and Technology Germany.  After 2years, Mr. Lovees got a UN-Women Career Institute certification on GBV, and in 2022, Mr Lovees became a Doctor by obtaining a P.h.D from the University of Bamenda.  For more than three decades now the fight against Gender-based violence GBV in Cameroon has been slowed down by stereotypes, myths, power imbalance, gender roles, and most especially the existent societal inequality fueled by the ongoing conflict in the two English-speaking regions of the country leading to an upsurge in GBV cases. Despite the grabbling challenges, community women leaders like Roseline Obah quest to achieve a GBV-free Cameroon never seems to change. Producing content both online and offline has been one of the strategies used to sensitize communities in Cameroon about Gender-based violence. North West Region: PIC Urges Administrators To Stop Using Council Workers For Electoral Campaigns

Mayors and Local administrators.  The office of the Public Independent Concialiator have cautioned regional, city and local administrators, especially mayors to stop forcing council workers to fellow their political views and support their political campaigns. This was during the opening ceremony of a two day seminar organized by PIC at their main office hall upstation, Bamenda this Thursday 27th October 2022. Bamenda: Women Leaders revisiting the Women Peace and Security Agenda in the fight against GBV

Participants  The experiences and role of women and girls during and after conflict is different from what boys and men go through. Women and girls have been targets of war,  constantly subjected to different forms of gender-based violence. Bamenda: Women Leaders Embrace New Methodology in Combating GBV

                                        With the mission to reduce Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Cameroon through the start, awareness, support, action, SASA Methodology, the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, CHRDA, has organized a one day seminar to discuss and improve Women's knowledge on violence prevention against women and girls through changes in behaviours, practices and attitudes. This was in a day workshop that took place at Common Action for Gender, COMAGEND office on Saturday May 7th 2021. NWR: Journalist Develop Skills on Reporting Cases of Child Abuse in Conflict Times

  About 20 young journalists in Bamenda chief town of the North West region have been equipped with skills and tools on countering Fake news, Hate Speech, misinformation, Disinformation and reporting issues of child abuse and protection in conflict times. Cameroon: Women Tasked To Claim Their Rights and Break Gender Stereotypes

  Women in Cameroon have been called upon to claim their rights and break stereotypes so as to contribute in the economy growth of Cameroon. This was amongst many recommendations made at the end of a panel discussion organised by the Denis and Loretia Foundation this November 30, 2021 in Yaounde under its project to promote Women's Economic Rights, WERC. With theme of focus, "Advancing Women's Liberty for a Sustainable Economic Growth", three panelists identified barriers to women's economic liberty and prosperity in Cameroon and then proposed solutions to tackle these problems. The obstacles to women's economic liberty highlighted include: limited access to education in some localities, limited access to health services, limited access to loans, constraints in justice systems and vulnerable jobs.
