BAMENDA: AGYW Endorse Hate Mitigation

  Adolescent Girls and Young Women AGYW leaders from different sociocultural groups in Bamenda, have acquired knowledge and skills on the different strategies used to overcome prejudice. This was during a one-day capacity building organized by Common Action for Gender and Development COMAGEND with support from #defyhatenow Cameroon in Bamenda. Considering that Identity and context, prejudice was identified as one of the main drivers of violence in Cameroon, most especially in the North West and South West regions, wherein the participants were tasked to refrain from and rather uphold hate mitigation in their various communities. 30 Grassroot Female Leaders Trained as Community Relay Agents

  Within the context of the Anglophone crisis in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon which has caused suffering, hurt, bleeding due to the loss of lives, property and Mass movement, Common Action for Gender and Development COMAGEND, in Collaboration with the Cameroon Association for Bible Translation and Literacy CABTAL , organized  a four-day training of trainers workshop from 11th to 14th May for grassroots female leaders, to build their capacities as community relay agents on Trauma Healing. Drawn from six different communities within Mezam, North West region of Cameroon, these 30 women leaders who assembled at  COMAGEND office Hall in Bamenda, were equipped with skills, techniques and processes to engage other community members in the Trauma Healing process. NW Journalist groomed on Conflict prevention and strategies.

   At a time when the armed conflict in the North West region continue to escalate, media personnels have been trained by Alternative Women in Action WAA Cameroon, on their duties and responsibility in building peace through ethical and responsible reporting with the expected outcome being lasting peace and safety. The capacity building workshop which took place at the Catholic Women Immaculate Conception Home on May 6th saw over 20 journalists in attendance ready to be equipped with skills to enable them go about their work diligently. Facilitated by The National Coordinator of the Cameroon Community Media Network and also a Peace Expert, Madam Rosaline Obah, the workshop kicked off with a slogan "Peace my Agenda" a response to "Hello" wherein journalist are expected to remind themselves of the phrase while carrying out their duties to see to it that their report is peace oriented and not set out to destroy. Members of The Cameroon Community Media Network upskilled on Non-violent Communication and Psychological Care

A four hours session organised by Draufsicht on Wednesday May 5th at the Presbyterian Church Center Mankon saw the training of over 20 journalist on how to use non- violent Communication in their reporting and Psychological Care could help foster their work.
